WEB STANDARDS

Standards for design compliance are maintained for the World Wide Web by the W3 Consortium. All Spindrift Sites are designed to these internationally recognised standards and are validated by submission to the W3. This is your assurance that our designs have been produced to recognised industry standards and will display correctly in a range of browsers and will not be made obsolete by new versions.

Websites should operate with most browsers. They should last and be easily maintained. These web standard logos show that our designs have been successfully validated to a high standard of excellence.

A Standard defining cascading style sheets to control the overall style of a site and seperate style from content. At Spindrift we currently use the most well implemented version, CSS2.

A Standard defining the definitive version of HTML. We have always used 4.01 strict or transitional for frames. This standard has been superceded by XHTML 1.0 and should not be used for new designs.

The current defacto markup standard based on an XML implementation of HTML and now used by Spindrift for all new designs. We always use XHTML 1.0 Strict and only use XHTML 1.0 transitional for in line frames.

This is the fully modularised XML version of HTML and will one day be the recognised standard for markup. For the time being many browsers do not properly implement this standard and rendering is inconsistent. Our approach is to use XHTMl 1.1 wherever possible but serve the site as XHTML 1.0. At least we know that our Design standards are always one step ahead of the rest and ready for new browsers.

If you are in any doubt about the standards of excellence of your proposed website designer ask him which one of these standards he uses and does he validate his work.

This site has been validated for interoperability at the W3 and complies with web standards CSS2 and XHTML 1.0 Strict
